Piece of a history

Are there any moments in a history of your country that is celebrated/remembered every year? In Poland we have Warsaw Uprising which is more important for us than Independence Day.

well my birthday just passed on Saturday, so that moment is over. July 4th (USA Independence Day) was a month ago. Leaving our next holiday to be Labor Day contributed to honor workers in the American labor movement (I am one).
